Marktgemeinde Metnitz

Metnitz is an Austrian market town in the district of Sankt Veit an der Glan in the province of Carinthia. The municipality is located in the north of Carinthia and includes most of the Metnitz Valley and the adjacent mountains up to the main ridge (slightly exceeding it at Laßnitz): in the north the Metnitz Mountains, in the south the Mödringberg range. Both are parts of the Gurktaler Alps. The main settlement area is the Metnitz valley with the river of the same name. To the north, the municipality borders the Styrian communities of Murau, Sankt Georgen am Kreischberg and Stadl-Predlitz. The neighboring communities in Carinthia are, clockwise from the east, Friesach, Strasbourg, Weitensfeld im Gurktal and Glödnitz.
