Stratzing is a market town with 908 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2022) in the district of Krems-Land in Lower Austria.Stratzing is located in the Waldviertel on a plateau north of Krems. Cut into the plateau is the Stratzingbach, which drains the area into the Krems.
On September 23, 1988, under the direction of Christine Neugebauer-Maresch, stone fragments were found on the Galgenberg near Stratzing, which could be assembled into a small statuette. The world's oldest stone statuette of a woman had been found. It dates from about 32,000 BC, is 7.2 cm tall, weighs 10 g and is made of greenish amphibolite slate. Called Venus from Galgenberg, the statuette is in the Natural History Museum in Vienna, where it is on permanent display.
