Sankt Gallen is an Austrian market town in the north of Styria in the judicial district or district of Liezen.
Culture and sights
Gallenstein Castle, built in 1278 St. Gallus Catholic Parish Church: built 1515-1523; late Gothic church building with buttresses, stepped towers. Baroque onion-shaped helmet. Inside richly decorated late Gothic reticulated ribbed vault with quatrefoil configuration in the eastern nave bays and elaborate sling ribbed vault with six-pointed central star in the western choir area. Baroque extensions with platzl vaults are the western nave bay and the eastern choir bay. Town houses and hammermen's houses House No. 45 on the market square bears a commemorative plaque as the residence and death house of the geographer Friedrich Simony (1813-1896).
