Gaishorn am See is a market town with 1312 inhabitants in the judicial district or district of Liezen in Upper Styria. 

Gaishorn is located in the Paltental, framed by the Ennstaler Alps in the north, the Eisenerzer Alps in the east, the Seckauer Alps in the south and the Rottenmanner Tauern in the west, on the old salt road from Selzthal to St. Michael over the Schoberpass. A toll road leads to the Mödlinger Hütte at the foot of the Admonter Reichenstein.
