Gemeinde Arzl im Pitztal

Arzl im Pitztal is a municipality in the district of Imst (Gerichtsbezirk Imst), Tyrol, Austria.Arzl is located at the entrance to the Pitztal valley between the northern slope of the Venet (2513 m) and the Leiner Kögele (2387 m) on a low mountain terrace high above the Inn valley. The municipal area is separated by the Pitzbach, which has dug a deep gorge through the limestone here.

Culture and sights

The parish church Arzl im Pitztal to St. Ingenuin and St. Albuin stands on the western edge of the village elevated on a slope. The originally late Gothic church was enlarged and baroqueized around the middle of the 18th century, and in 1875, in addition to the removal of some late Baroque artwork, the church was remodeled in the Neo-Romanesque style.
The daughter church of Wald was built in neo-Gothic style after several fires in 1911/12.
In addition to the church in Leins, there are several smaller chapels scattered throughout the municipality.

The traffic conditions from the Inn to the Pitztal valley improved considerably with the Pitztal bridge, opened in 1983, which crosses the narrow Inn valley at this point west of the Imst-Pitztal train station at a height of about 50 meters and a length of 221 meters.

A point of interest is the Benni-Raich bridge between Arzl and Wald, at the time of its opening the highest pedestrian suspension bridge in Europe. It spans the Arzl Pitzeklamm gorge at a height of 94 meters with a span of 138 meters. It was built for the sewage disposal of the districts to the east. Bungee jumping from this bridge is very popular.

South of Arzl (??) is the highest overhead line mast in Austria. It is 107 meters high and was erected in 1976.
Recreation and sports
In Arzl there is a sports and leisure park, activities of the tourist association, events of the associations, for example regular square concerts at the pavilion of the Musikkapelle Arzl, tent festivals, carnival parades and much more. Jumping on the bungee rope from Europe's highest footbridge - 94 m high over the "Luis Trenker-Steig" in the Pitzenklamm is possible. The entry point for rafting on the Inn River is also very close to Arzl. Since the year 2008 there is the "Steinwand-Klettersteig". This via ferrata, which is easily accessible from the center of the village, has a "family route" and a challenging route that both end at the "Adlerhorst". There you have an excellent view over the valley basin of Imst far into the Gurgltal, the Tschirgant (2.370 m) and the Lechtaler Alps. For winter sports enthusiasts the skiing area "Hochzeiger-Jerzens"", the glacier skiing area "Pitztaler Gletscher", the skiing area "Riffelsee" and many other Tyrolean skiing and winter sports regions are very easy to reach. Arzl also offers a natural toboggan run, a cross-country ski trail, ice skating, curling and much more.
