Rauris is a market town in the province of Salzburg in the district of Zell am See in Austria. The municipality is located in Pinzgau in the province of Salzburg on the Rauriser Ache below the Sonnblickgruppe in the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park and extends over the Raurisertal valley. Rauris is the largest municipality in Salzburg in terms of area.

Culture and sights

Parish church of St. Jacob and St. Martin 

Sonnblick Observatory: The trade Ignaz Rojacher revived gold mining again in the 19th century. In 1886, under very difficult circumstances, he built the meteorological observatory on the Hohe Sonnblick as the world's first and highest meteorological observation station. The material ropeway to the Sonnblick to supply the weather station was completed in 1954. Until then, everything that was needed had to be carried from the valley to the summit.
