Gemeinde Afritz am See

Afritz am See (Slovenian: Zobrce) is a municipality in the district of Villach-Land in Carinthia. The municipality is located in the Gegendtal south of Lake Afritz in the middle of the Nockberge mountains.

It's a good place to spend your vacation. That's what the guests say. And rightly so. Afritz am See stands for a unique mountain-lake experience in the Gegendtal north of Villach, nestled in the gentle crests of the Nockberge mountains. For nature lovers, those seeking relaxation, families and active vacationers. Lake Afritz is refreshingly different. Refreshingly relaxing.

A natural, popular bathing lake (1.7 kilometers long, 340 meters wide, up to 22.5 meters deep) with drinking water quality. Directly at the Afritzer See you will find two lidos and two campsites.
At the Afritzer See also anglers' dreams come true: because of the mostly freely accessible and unobstructed shore. Grab your hiking poles and head for the local mountain of Afritz am See - the Verditz. A hiker's paradise away from the hustle and bustle. Also in winter a very special recreation area. Wonderful: the hiking tours with panoramic views of Lake Afritz. Those who want to pedal hard, swing themselves onto the saddle. Because there are also numerous mountain bike routes here. Let's go!

Culture and sights

Catholic Parish Church of St. Nicholas: The parish church is a Gothic building, later partly altered, on the northwestern edge of the village. The first documented mention dates back to 1512. The three-story porch tower with baroque onion helmet and lantern was completed in 1716.
Evangelical church (Tolerance Jubilee Church) west of the parish church was built in 1980-1981 and consecrated in 1981.
Porcia House in Gassen: The former keepers' house was owned by the Counts of Porcia from 1662 to 1848, seat of the keepers of the dominion of Afritz. The two-story Renaissance building with a former continuous transverse corridor on both floors and a shear rafter roof truss covered with alpine roof tile with a crested hip on both sides has projecting, open gable walls with decorated balustrades. The facades were created around 1785, but were redesigned in the 19th century.
