Lustenau is the most populous market town in Austria and is located in the west of the province of Vorarlberg. Until 1806, Lustenau was a free imperial court of the Holy Roman Empire. It was not until 1830 that Lustenau finally became part of Austria.

Museums

The Museum Rhein-Schauen shows the history of the Rhine and its regulation and offers a ride on the service railroad of the International Rhine Regulation.

Rauch's Radio Museum exhibits some 550 objects from the period 1920 to 1970.

DOCK20 houses over 1200 exhibits from the estate of expressionist painter Stephanie Hollenstein, numerous works by Lustenau artist Karl Schwärzler and a continuously expanding collection of contemporary artists.

In 2011, the holdings of a museum for letterpress printing previously located in Dornbirn were transferred to Lustenau. 

The high significance of the embroidery industry in Lustenau was taken into account by the embroidery museum with an attached museum store.
