Gnesau is a municipality in the district of Feldkirchen in Carinthia. Gnesau is located in the upper Gurktal in the Gurktaler Alps.

Culture and sights

    The Catholic parish church of Gnesau Hl. Leonhard is a Romanesque choir tower church, the core of the hall church was built before 1213, the tower in the core in the 14th century and raised in 1723 by a Baroque onion helmet. The oldest documentary mention of the church dates back to 1213, and in 1499 it was first mentioned as a parish.
    Protestant Parish Church Gnesau: On the site of today's Protestant Church at the southeastern end of the village, a wooden prayer house was originally erected in 1782, immediately after Emperor Joseph II's Tolerance Patent, which was replaced by a stone building in 1803. The foundation stone for the present church building in neo-Gothic style was laid on June 29, 1870, and it was completed the following year by the master builder Antonio Missoni.
    The "Arboretum" is an accessible tree garden, where many well-known, but also rare native tree species can be viewed and studied, and is located next to the Kulturhaus in Gnesau. This is also the starting point or end point of the Gnesau wood culture trail, which is suitable for half-day hikes (about 6 km). Along the way, 20 information boards provide interesting facts about the local wood species and their possible uses.
