Donaustadt is the 22nd district of Vienna. The district in the east of the city, which has existed in this form only since 1954, is by far the largest and the most populous after Favoriten. Donaustadt, which makes up almost a quarter of Vienna's municipal territory, is characterized by a diverse appearance. In addition to large housing estates such as the Trabrenngründe and single-family housing estates, there is the Donau City office and high-rise residential district and the Seestadt Aspern, which is one of the largest current district development projects in Europe. The 22nd district is also home to important recreational and nature conservation areas such as the Alte Donau and the Lobau, as well as part of the agricultural Marchfeld.
