Gemeinde Frauenstein

Frauenstein is a municipality in the district of Sankt Veit an der Glan in Carinthia. The municipality of Frauenstein is located directly northwest of the town of Sankt Veit an der Glan in hilly countryside in Central Carinthia. The municipal area includes large parts of the Wimitz mountains and is characterized by a hilly and low mountain range landscape rich in forests. South of the main village Kraig lies the Kraiger See lake.

Culture and sights

On the hills of the municipality are many castles and fortresses (most of them are now castle ruins), which in the Middle Ages served as fortifications for the then residence town of Carinthia, St. Veit.
