Spittal an der Drau

Spittal an der Drau is a municipality and also the seat of the district administration of the district of the same name in the province of Carinthia in Austria. The city in the intersection of Drautal, Liesertal, Millstätter See, Nockberge and Mölltal is the urban center of Upper Carinthia. Spittal is located between the Lurnfeld and the Lower Drau Valleys. The Lieser River flows through the city from north to south and then flows into the Drau River.

Drauauen
West of Spittal are the Drauauen, a recreational and nature reserve on the northeastern bank of the Drau. In the course of the integration of the upper Drau in the area from the provincial border near Oberdrauburg to the beginning of the Drau delta near Paternion into the European nature reserve Upper Drau (Natura 2000)[3], the 13-meter-high viewing platform DrAUENland was erected in 2005 as a special attraction, from which a good view over the Drau with its riparian zones is offered
