Bad Gams is a market town in western Styria. It was until the end of 2014 a market town in southwestern Styria in the district of Deutschlandsberg (former judicial district of Stainz). In 2015, as part of the Styrian municipal structural reform, Bad Gams was merged with the municipalities of Deutschlandsberg, Freiland bei Deutschlandsberg, Kloster, Osterwitz and Trahütten to form the municipality of Deutschlandsberg. The basis for this is the Styrian Municipal Structure Reform Act - StGsrG. A merger and development agreement with Deutschlandsberg and Kloster was already signed on November 18, 2013.

The small spa town is located about 30 km from Graz. Important sources of income are tourism and viticulture. Old farmhouses with typical acute-angled West Styrian tiled roofs testify to early settlement at the foot of the 800-meter-high Gamsgebirge, along with ancient burial mounds from the time of the Celts.
