Reifnitz (Slovenian Ribnica) is a village on the southern shore of Lake Wörthersee in Carinthia. The main village of the municipality Maria Wörth has 807 inhabitants.
Buildings
Castle Reifnitz (Slovenian Grad Ribnica ob Vrbskem jezeru), also called castle "Klein Miramar" (Slovenian Mali Miramar), was built in 1898 on the headland at the northern edge of the Reifnitz Bay.
The ruins of Reifnitz Castle: The first approach to the construction of a fortified complex on the castle rock near St. Margarethen-Reifnitz probably dates back to the time of the early medieval Christianization of the pagan Alpine Slavs and the colonization by new Bavarian-Franconian settlers in the 8th/9th century.
St. Margarethen is a daughter church of the parish church of St. George in Keutschach and is probably the oldest church foundation in the Reifnitz-Keutschach area. Probably in 977, but undoubtedly with the first mention of Reifnitz Castle in 1189 or 1195.
