Hochrindl
Hochrindl (1561 m) is an alpine pass as well as an alpine pasture and skiing area in the Nockberge mountains in Carinthia between Ebene Reichenau and Sirnitz. The national road 65 leads over the pass. The largest part and all settlements of the area belong to the municipality of Albeck. The landscape, which was largely uninhabited and characterized by alpine farming until the middle of the 20th century, has been fundamentally transformed by the increase in summer and winter tourism in recent decades. Today there are four villages on Hochrindl (Hochrindl, Hochrindl-Alpl, Hochrindl-Kegel and Hochrindl-Tatermann), which owe their existence almost exclusively to the tourist development of the sparse and infrastructure-poor area.
Albeck is a municipality in the district of Feldkirchen in Carinthia. The core area of the municipality of Albeck is located in the Sirnitzbachtal, a side valley of the Gurktal in the Gurktaler Alps, east to southeast of the Nockberge. The municipality lies at an altitude between 730 and 2404 m (Strassburger Spitz (world icon), one of the peaks of the Wintertalernock). The main village of the municipality is Sirnitz.
Culture and sights
Albeck is known, among other things, for Albeck Castle, a late Baroque manor that had jurisdiction over the entire Upper Gurk Valley until 1848. In the main village of Sirnitz there is a late Gothic parish church with a Baroque charnel house and a house of burial.
