Your Holiday resort - Short Info

Zell am See

Zell am See

Zell am See-Kaprun, Salzburgerland

Zell am See

Zell am See is a municipality in the Austrian state of Salzburg with 10,131 inhabitants. It is both the seat of the district administration of the district of the same name and the district court of Zell am See.

The roots of the town go back to the Bronze Age. Today, Zell am See as a vacation destination Zell am See-Kaprun is internationally known as one of the most important winter sports resorts in Austria and an important transport hub in the region.

Culture and sights

Zell Old Town: The historic town center with the Zell Old Town is located on an alluvial cone of the Schmittenbach. The oldest building elements are the parish church St. Hippolyt, the Vogtturm, the Alte Propstei, and date back to the (early) Middle Ages and have essentially been preserved. Catastrophic floods caused by the Schmittenbach occurred in 1588, 1737 and most recently in 1966. A devastating fire in the center of the village, which also led to the demolition of the church "Unsere liebe Frau im Walde", occurred in 1770.

Rosenberg Castle: Today's town hall, is the town's landmark. Southern Bavarian influence can be seen in the square ground plan with the four corner towers and the round central tower.

Prielau Castle

The town parish church of Zell am See with numerous art-historical treasures (Celtic-Roman relief stone, Roman spolia, early medieval crypt, late Gothic gallery (1514/15), mighty west tower, ...). The church was roughly archaeologically recorded in the years 1972 to 1975 (including uncovering the crypt) and renovated, a renovation of the tower took place in 2012/13.
The Lutheran Church of the Resurrection was built in 1958 as one of the Transylvanian churches by Kurt Glondys.
Catholic Parish Church Zell am See-Schüttdorf St. Pope Pius X.

Vogtturm: Next to the parish church, the Vogt or Kastnerturm is the oldest building in town. Today, the tower is home to the city museum with special exhibitions on five floors.

The Ferry Porsche Congress Center (FPCC) is the multifunctional event center of the municipality of Zell am See, completed in 2007 and named after the automobile manufacturer and honorary citizen of Zell, Ferry Porsche.

The Grand Hotel Zell am See is a 4-star category hotel and has landmark character for the city of Zell am See. The hotel building, which was erected between 1894 and 1896 in the Belle Époque style, is located in the town center at the extreme eastern tip of the Zell peninsula directly on the lakeshore and can be seen from almost any point on the lake. The striking, elongated structure stands out visually above all due to its snow-white facade and mansard roof.
