Greifenburg is a market town with 1721 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2022) in the upper Drau Valley. It belongs to the district of Spittal an der Drau in Carinthia. Greifenburg is located in a narrow valley basin of the Upper Drau Valley between the Kreuzeck Group in the north and the Gailtal Alps in the south.

    Paragliding and hang gliding on the Emberger Alm: In the recent past Greifenburg has become an important venue for competitions in both sports, among all pilots Greifenburg is known as a flying paradise.
    In 2004 the World Hang Gliding Championships (FAI 1) for women, fixed wing (FAI 5) and swift (FAI 2) took place here.
    The soccer club SV Greifenburg plays in the Carinthian lower league.
    The fire department Bruggen provides in the context of the fire department competitions the national champion 2007 and the winner of the district cup of 2005, 2006 and 2010.
    East of the village center is the Greifenburg bathing lake with lido and climbing park.
