Nature

In the southwest of Lauterach is the Natura 2000 area Lauteracher Ried, which, with an extent of about 580 hectares, is an important recreational area for the population of the region (the Lauteracher Ried as a whole has about 800 hectares). The Lauteracher Ried is an important breeding area for rare birds such as the curlew, black-tailed godwit, snipe, lapwing, lark, stonechat, whinchat and the corncrake, which is threatened with extinction throughout Europe.

The Jannersee is located in the Lauteracher Ried. From 1959 to 1961, gravel was quarried by the Janner company on the site of today's bathing lake.
Sports
Jannersee Triathlon 2009

Every year in August the Jannersee Triathlon takes place in Lauterach since 1994. At this competition for "everyone" in the Lauteracher Ried, a triathlon over the distances of 400 m swimming, 16 km cycling and 4 km running is held as the Vorarlberg Triathlon Regional Championship. In 2009, the two professional triathletes Yvonne van Vlerken and Peter Schoissengeier were also at the start.
