Gemeinde Ludmannsdorf

Ludmannsdorf is a bilingual municipality in Carinthia. The municipality is located in the Rosental valley between Lake Wörthersee and the Drava river. The municipal area of Ludmannsdorf extends north of the Drava River and south of Lake Wörthersee between the municipalities of Velden am Wörther See and Köttmannsdorf.

The community has numerous cultural, sports and other associations, the best known being the Slovenian cultural association Bilka. Two internationally known artists come from Ludmannsdorf: the writer Janko Ferk and the painter Meina Schellander.

The land art project of "Kunstbau Saager", created under the title "Drava Art", is a landscape design by the three artists Edmund Hoke, Tomas Hoke and Armin Guerino. Using the water forms snail, whirlpool and roller, the three designers shaped the bay created by the Drau dam near Selkach. Nature, art and technology became a growing unity, which is available for visitors. On the hill "Zikkurat", on the chain of waves and in the whirlpool-shaped harbor basin, there are new perspectives to get closer to the Drava and the mountains.

There are numerous wayside crosses and wayside shrines in the municipal area. Just near the dam bridge to Maria Elend in the small village of Selkach stands this massive wayside shrine from the 16th century with shallow round arched niches under its pyramid shingle roof. The painting dates from the first half of the 19th century.
