Feistritz is located in the Lower Gail Valley near the border triangle of Austria-Italy-Slovenia. The southeastern border is formed over long stretches by the Feistritzgraben.

Culture and sights

Catholic parish church Feistritz an der Gail hl. Martin: Documentarily mentioned in 1182, parish since 1424, is a late Gothic building from the 15th century. It is located on the hill above the village and is surrounded by the cemetery.
Feistritz is known mainly for the annual church festival on Whit Monday. On this day the Gailtaler traditional costume is worn by the unmarried boys and girls older than 15 years. After the mass in the church and after the traditional lunch with the festive soup, in the afternoon first in Oberfeistritz and then in Unterfeistritz the Kufenstechen with Lindentanz takes place. The following day the married people of the village meet in their adult costumes for mass in the church, for a drink in various houses and for the lime dance.
