Gemeinde Lingenau

Lingenau is a municipality in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg. Lingenau is located in the westernmost province of Austria, Vorarlberg, in the district of Bregenz southeast of Lake Constance at an altitude of 685 meters.

Culture and sights

The parish church of St. John the Baptist with choir, nave and north tower in Neo-Romanesque style from the 19th century received a reconstruction in 2010 with the altar in the center of the nave. The windows, designed in 1964 by the Schruns artist Konrad Honold, were restored. The symbols of the four evangelists are depicted in the window rosette above the gallery.

The chapel of St. Anne in the Field from 1722 shows a pure baroque style. The chapel, which is unique due to its basic shape, is located outside the village on the road to Müselbach. It was built in place of an earlier chapel by the Lingenau master builder Konrad Nussbaumer together with the master carpenter Konrad Bilgeri.

The chapel was built of spring tufa stone and has colored stained glass windows with representations of various saints and blessed. In 1894, the interior was restored with paintings by Jakob Bertle (1837-1911).
The ceiling fresco "Vorarlbergia Sankta" (depicting the founding of the diocese of Feldkirch; 1968) as well as the two altarpieces are by the Schruns artist Konrad Honold (1918-2007). The St. Anna chapel is a listed building.

The Gschwendtobel bridge was built in 1834 by Alois Negrelli and connects Lingenau with Egg.

The Lingenau High Bridge is a 370 meter long reinforced concrete arch bridge and one of the largest bridges in Central Europe.
